Subtitled – The cucamelon cometh…

Yep the cucamelon’s have finally started to grow. They only need to get to the size of an olive so not much growing. Their Spanish name (they come from South America) translates as mouse melon which I think is cute. I’ve added a couple of photos at the bottom.

The week has been good, I’ve had two art classes doing new things – one was a watercolour class making cards and the other class was for drawing in chalk pastels. Chalk pastels are not a medium I’ve really used before so it has been an interesting and welcomed experience. We are doing the chalk pastel class in the lead up to a visit to an exhibition of chalk pastel work at the end of August. I once again really enjoyed the watercolour class and learning how to paint something simple but effective, I’ve added a couple of photos below.

Pat and I also had our last French language class, but only as we are now breaking for summer. Summer has been a little haphazard this year, but in talking to people it is not normally quite so cool and wet (though due to the humidity, summer storms are very common). Also in an effort to improve our French (well mine really) we have decided to try and speak more French around the home, so if we are able to say what we want to say in French it is happening in French. Not sure how long it will all last, but we shall see.

We also got the satellite dish up this week, which means we are now able to pick up freesat TV from England. We watched a programme on art in China last night and I’ve discovered a new sewing program which is about re-purposing clothes – they are using vintage clothes, but a lot of the info applies to all clothes, so I’m watching it avidly.

I’ve also been doing some sewing for the new house – nothing too exciting just adding some extra material to the bedroom curtains to make them longer. I’ve also started on sanding my dressing table. Hopefully that will be finished next week, especially as next week my dad arrives from Australia via the FINA World Masters in Canada, he is competing in the Waterpolo completion. Currently they are 3rd we shall see what happens.

Next week shall be interesting, especially as Châlus is having a Richard the Lion heart fete on Sunday (he died at Châlus) we are planning to attend for part of the day and we most definitely will be taking our cameras.

Till next Saturday…

I almost feel I live in France too! Sounds like you have settled in well, and enjoying France. French lesson progress makes me smile! 🙂
