Good afternoon readers, today is another glorious day in our part of France. I’m sorry for posting this slightly late, but I’ve been hard at work today, I’ll explain later in my blog.
The weather has been beautiful, but slightly humid (we’ve had the thunderstorms to go with it). However, it is really nice to have the windows open and to sit outside in the evening and just relax. The honeysuckle is now in full bloom and the smell glorious and attracting a very diverse array of insects to it – the most interesting being the Hummingbird Hawkmoth – Macroglossum stellatarum (and yes I had to look up the Latin name). We first came across these amazing little creatures while on holiday in Spain one year, they are incredible. They look just like small hummingbirds from a distance. I’ll try to get a photo.
Wallace doesn’t seem to be enjoying the heat as much as Pat and I and has found himself a couple of cool spots in the garden where he sleeps during the day. Around 8pm he decides it’s got cool enough and heads off on his rounds, tormenting lizards and mice. Currently it isn’t getting dark until after 10pm so that gives him a couple of hours of daylight to explore in. However, he is being a bit of a pain and not coming in till quite late at night.
I’ve decided that I really need to get myself fit again. One of my friends has been getting herself fit and healthy and is currently training for a mini triathlon and it really bought it home how unfit I have become. So starting this week I’m trying to get myself back up to a reasonable level of fitness. Pat and I have already been on a couple of bike rides (first one was cut short when Pat got a puncture). I’ve also dug out the tension bands to do some resistance work. Let’s see how it goes.
This week we will be doing a lot of work on the house, as once again we have visitors (as mentioned last week). We have sorted out what jobs we want to get done to the house, so hopefully next week photos of our work. As I explained last week, Richard and Lyn have joined us (along with Dave the dog). They arrived yesterday and today we’ve all been hard at work today, Lyn and I painting the kitchen wall and the boys opening up the top of the stairs. I’ve put a few photos below (sorry these will have to finish loading these tomorrow, heading out for dinner now) :-).
